New Hanover County is committed to ensuring all customers can participate equally in the county's programs, services, and activities, including those with limited or no English proficiency and those who are deaf or hard of hearing. The county has employees who can act as interpreters, and also utilizes a language interpretation service for 240 languages that includes video interpretation for access to sign language.
Aids & Services
In addition, upon request, the county can provide appropriate aids and services, including qualified sign language interpreters for meetings, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, vision disabilities, or language needs.
The county will not place a cost or surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or language needs or any group of individuals with disabilities or language needs to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy.

If you have an accessibility concern for any public space that is not a New Hanover County government property, please contact the property owner with your concern. New Hanover County does not have enforcement capabilities for ADA guidelines. Contact ADA.gov for more information and to access the formal complaint process.
