The demolition of the River Road pier, which was damaged during Hurricane Isaias, has begun. In order to not put the burden on the backs of NHC tax payers to make the $900,000 repair, we looked to the federal government. FEMA will be reimbursing us 100% for the cost of the project. The demolition and reconstruction of the pier is going to require large and dangerous equipment (large crane, pile drivers, etc.) to be brought to the site. Our goal is to keep our park visitors safe and allow our contractor's team to work quickly to provide the repairs in hopes of completing the project prior to the early July completion date outlined in their contract. We know that this will not make those who utilize the area regularly happy, but safety is our utmost priority.
