International Observe the Moon Night

Saturday, October 21, 2023

FREE EVENT! International Observe the Moon Night is a worldwide celebration of lunar science and exploration and occurs in early fall when the Moon is around first quarter. Join us for hands-on activities, exhibit explorations, Moon observation, themed story time and more!

Activities for the evening include:

  • View the Moon and other celestial objects from our museum park, with telescopes and expertise provided by Cape Fear Astronomical Society.
  • Experience interactive stories in our Stellar Story Corner, featuring NHC Librarian Ms. Jamie.
  • Read famous poems inspired by the Moon and create your own Moon poem to share on our poetry wall.
  • Check out some of the interesting names given to the Moon’s dark features, then make your own memorable Moon map with names of your choosing.
  • Take part in a LEGO lunar rover challenge, using our newest LEGO SPIKE robots.
  • Color your own space helmet and pose for pictures with your “astronaut crew”.

If you need a cool refreshment, Kona-Ice will be here selling tasty treats!

And make sure to check out Space Place, our interactive exhibit inspired by and modeled after the International Space Station!
